"Missing" Mewes Found in L.A.

Cult film actor Jason Mewes is alive and well, easing fears that he was dead. Mewes, who played the long-haired, drug-loving Jay in Kevin Smith's Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma and Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back, was reportedly on the run - an arrest warrant had been issued for him after he violated probation on a heroin conviction - or even feared dead after his friends told the Chicago Sun-Times they hadn't seen him in 10 months. But last month, Mewes made an appearance at a film festival in Malibu to promote his new indie movie Rsvp, and he'll host a talent show on October 17 at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. Mewes' agent Nancy Oeswein chuckles, "The rumors of his death are greatly exaggerated. I just got off the phone with him. He's certainly not in hiding. He just moved to LA."

End in Sight To Courtney Love Legal Battle

Courtney Love is close to agreeing a deal with her record company which could see her return to the recording studio. The former Hole frontwoman has been locked in a battle with Universal/Geffen Records, with whom she was tied into a long-term deal with her old band. Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain's widow wanted out after arguing that a series of mergers left her signed to a different company to the one she was originally contracted to. Reports suggest a deal between the two parties is close, and that under the terms of the agreement Love will receive a multi-million-dollar advance on the projected earnings of forthcoming Nirvana archival releases. Courtney recently said she had come to an agreement with her late husband's former bandmates Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic over rights to the band's vast legacy. A Nirvana Greatest Hits package, including unreleased tracks such as the recently-leaked "You Know You're Right," looks set to be issued before Christmas. Love would also be free to release solo material under the deal, probably on British media mogul Alan McGee's Poptones label. "You Know You're Right," which some have described as Cobain's musical suicide note, has been broadcast by a number of radio stations both in the UK and the US this week after being leaked onto the internet.

Hollywood star Julia Roberts is unconcerned that her engagement ring cost a mere $3,750 compared to her famous friend Catherine Zeta-Jones' $375,000 rock. Jennifer Love Hewitt suffered a panic attack on the set of her new movie The Tuxedo when the claustrophobic star was forced to film a scene underwater.

The actress' fear of small spaces and water left her freaking out in the new Jackie Chan film.

She says, "I had to do a scene where a guy was holding my head underwater. I was terrified and begged not to have it in the movie. Sure enough, they threw me in there and within the first hour I had a complete panic attack."

Music giant EMI is to make ex-Take That singer Robbie Williams one of the world's richest musicians in a deal worth US$50 million (S$88.8 million).

Reeve: I Considered Suicide

Brave actor Christopher Reeve considered suicide after the 1995 horse- riding accident which left him paralyzed. The Superman star, 49, has been in a wheelchair since the fall near Charlottesville, Virginia, but recently gained movement in his fingers and toes after years of rehabilitation. Devoted wife Dana explains, "He talked about committing suicide, but it was not serious. It was a thing that couples do, talking about what if this, what if that and this came up even before the accident. And the Bird On A Wire actress says the story was conceived while she was biking up a mountain in India. She says, "The whole movie suddenly came to me." She'll be in financial meetings this week with two Indian companies and plans to shoot in Asia for five weeks, with three weeks of location filming in New York City. The Queen of Pop topped a poll of the Top 100 musicians by the video station, which was voted for by the public and a panel of musical celebrities.

The King of Rock'n'Roll, Elvis Presley comes in second, ahead of Latino pop and acting sensation Jennifer Lopez, who completes the top three.

Rolling Stones legend Mick Jagger is at four, while miniature pop superstar Prince is at five, ahead of Tina Turner and deceased Doors hero Jim Morrison, at six and seven respectively.

Elsewhere in the Top 100, Kylie Minogue is way down at number 27, ahead of Kurt Cobain, at 49, and Courtney Love at 67. Intriguingly, Samantha Fox, at 81, is deemed more attractive than Aussie pop rocket Natalie Imbruglia, who is at a lowly 90.

Barry White undergoes kidney dialysis

Barry White is now undergoing dialysis therapy, his spokesperson announced Wednesday (September 25) in a statement.

The R&B legend has a history of hypertension, resulting in high blood pressure; and now, a decline of kidney function as diagnosed by doctors. Once White is in stabilized condition through the dialysis, he will become a candidate for a kidney transplant, the statement said.

White is signed to Def Jam Classics and at last report had been working on two albums for the label. He is best known for the mid-'70s hits "Can't Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe" and "You're The First, The Last, My Everything."

Pop siren Holly Valance has lashed out at reports she is having an affair with an English student and is set to dump her long-term boyfriend Pete Veveris.

Appletons' CD Shelved After Book Row

The release of the Appleton sisters' debut album has been delayed because of the controversy surrounding their new book.

The CD, which is believed to be called Aloud, was finished by former All
Saints pair Nicole and Natalie months ago and was due to hit UK shops in November 2002.

But bosses at their label Polydor, anticipating fallout from the revealing autobiography Together, have now stated that the CD will not be on sale until February next year at the earliest.

The girls had been expected to quickly follow-up the success of their debut single "Fantasy", which reached number two in Britain and were keen to get the CD in the shops for the lucrative Christmas market.

In the book, which is out next month, Nicole admits she aborted then boyfriend Robbie Williams' baby in 1998.

Before the memoir has even been officially released she has already been widely criticised for going public with the revelations.

A source close to the sisters says, "Polydor doesn't want to be seen cashing in on the book, especially since it contains such personal details about the abortion. It has already caused more controversy than anyone expected." (WENN)

Controversial rapper Eminem has landed himself an unlikely fan - inspirational nu-soul singer India.Arie.

The singer met up with the rapper backstage at Black Entertainment Television's (BET) music show 106 And Park: Top 10 Live last month, where Arie declared to a seemingly dumbstruck Eminem that she thought he was "brilliant", before telling him that she'd like to record a track with him.

The rap star responded by telling her that he thoroughly enjoyed her critically-acclaimed debut album Acoustic Soul.

And of the revelation that she finds Eminem brilliant, she explains, "There's two different sides to that. I have an opinion about his effect on minds that are young and impressionable, obviously."

Ashanti Rejects Easy Route To Stardom Accusations

R&B goddess Ashanti has hit back at critics who say her three million record sales in the United States are just down to successful marketing and the fact her album was sold at a reduced price of US$17.98.

The 21-year-old, whose first week sales were the highest for any solo female artist, says creativity alone took her to the top and says those who disagree are simply jealous.

Lance Bass To Play Nose Picker

'N Sync's Lance Bass will get to travel into space after all - when he stars as an alien in a new movie.

The boyband singer, whose bid to become an astronaut with the Russian Space Agency is as yet uncertain, will appear in a new musical film called Nose Pickers From Outer Space.

Bass's own production company has bought the rights to the book of the same name and they are planning to turn it into a film using live actors as well as computer generated images.

The book is about an alien who attempts to save earth from destruction by impersonating a school student.

Bass, whose debut as an actor in teen movie On The Line was not well-received by critics, will play one of the Nose Pickers, an alien race who carry computers in their noses. (WENN)

Holly Valance has admitted that Britney Spears has the better body.

The Neighbours star said of the singer: "She's got a wonderful body and it's a million times better than mine.

Kim plays sex-mad Samantha and the paper claims J-Lo is a huge fan of the show.

"I'm a New York girl so I can relate to those characters.

Yesterday morning, when the 'N Sync frontman stopped by US radio station, Hot 97, morning DJ, Troy Torain, promised he'd play Timberlake's new single, Like I Love You, 30 times a week if he agreed to reveal just one secret. Although the actual question was far too crude to print, to paraphrase it, Torain asked Timberlake if he had ever shared a certain bedroom intimacy with ex-girlfriend Britney Spears. Popstars: The Rivals judge Louis Walsh has unleashed a savage attack on Geri Halliwell. Walsh, who manages the careers of Westlife, Samantha Mumba and Lulu, declared that the former Spice Girl would stand no chance in the fiercely competitive talent contest that she is currently judging. "If Geri came to audition she wouldn't get through," he tells the Daily Mirror. "I thought the Spice Girls were the luckiest five girls in the world. Hannibal Lecter has been voted the scariest serial killer of all time.

Dr Lecter, played by Sir Anthony Hopkins, topped the list of the movie world's most evil murderers for his starring role in The Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal.

The flesh-eating killer famously boasted of eating a victim's liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.

He will soon be terrifying audiences a third time in Lambs prequel Red Dragon.

Se7en serial killer John Doe, played by Kevin Spacey, came second for his string of gruesome murders.

It culminated in him leaving Gwyneth Paltrow's severed head in a box.
Michael Myers, the knife-wielding psychopath from the Halloween movies, was third.

Norman Bates, played by Anthony Perkins, was fourth for his performance in the Alfred Hitchcock classic Psycho.

Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, played by Gunnar Hansen, was fifth in the poll carried out by movie magazine Total Film.

Other killers who made the list include American Psycho's Patrick Bateman and Jason from Friday The 13th.

Only one woman makes it into the Top 25. Juliette Lewis is in 18th place along with Woody Harrelson for their roles as Mickey and Mallory Knox.

Timberlake Angered By Crude Britney Comment

'N Sync heartthrob Justin Timberlake was left fuming during an appearance on MTV on Monday, 23 September 2002, when an audience member made crude sexual comments about him and Britney Spears.

The 21-year-old singer, whose relationship with blonde stunner Spears ended earlier this year, appeared on live TV show TRL, where he was subjected to a round of gruelling questions from fans in a new segment called the Hot Seat.

And when an eager female fan approached Timberlake to ask him the innocent question of what his life's biggest regret is, a bold fan in the background blurted out, "F***ing Britney."

Although the comment was barely audible, the audience - and Timberlake - heard it, which prompted the singer to angrily request, "Can we kick him out?"

As security men escorted the offender out of the studio - action which was not shown to viewers - Timberlake got out of his chair, glared at him and shouted British TV personality Anne Robinson's popular line, "You are the weakest link, goodbye!"

The show went on without any more outbursts after the audience of Timberlake supporters cheered at the offender's removal. (WENN)

Late Delivery Forced J.Lo Dress Change

Hollywood babe Jennifer Lopez was forced to wear a regular off-the-peg dress to an awards ceremony after her US$9,000 beaded gown was delivered late.

The limo that was carrying the stunning dress got stuck in traffic, leaving the singer-actress without a head-turning outfit to take to the MTV Video Music Awards. The problem was resolved by Jen's friend - also going to the event - who offered to swap dresses so the star wouldn't be late.

So whilst J.Lo was made to look like a very ordinary starlet, her unstarry friend was delighted to wear the original dress and become a Hollywood princess for the evening. (WENN)

The Beatles Exposed As Wanton Thieves

The Beatles have been caught red-handed for a crime they committed nearly 40 years ago, the theft of four fancy clothes hangers from a posh New York hotel! The heinous crime has come to light thanks to the digital technology used in the making of the DVD release of the Fab Four's first film 'A Hard Day's Night'.

The DVD's producer Martin Lewis, one of the world's foremost Beatles experts, noticed the theft only after the digital transfer of the original film onto DVD. One of the scenes shows the mop-topped pop stars grabbing their famous Beatles jackets from hangers on a clothes rack in the studio immediately prior to a live TV concert. It was only once the film had been digitalised that Lewis was able to make out the lettering on the hangers, now clearly visible as reading: "Plaza Hotel, New York City".

Since the film was shot in England, there was no way for the four hangers to have found their way from a five-star New York hotel room into a seedy London film studio without some human assistance. A quick check of the Beatles' calendar for February 1964 soon confirmed the dastardly deed that had taken place. The Beatles had stayed in New York's Plaza Hotel for six nights during their historic 1964 trip to America to appear on the Ed Sullivan Show. Just nine days after they checked out of the Plaza, they were back in London shooting their first feature. And when the script called for them to don their famous Beatles suits, they were brought out of their suitcases replete with attached hangers and placed on a rack.

No doubt Paul and Ringo will soon face extradition. (wenn)

Elvis is on course to top the UK album chart this week for the first time in 25 years. After just one day on release, 'Elv1s: 30 # 1 Hits' looks like leaving its rivals behind in the race to number one, with music stores around the country reporting huge early demand for the complete collection of the King's 30 UK and US number ones.

A source at Elvis' record label BMG says, "This proves just how important Elvis is to every generation of pop fan. His enduring appeal makes Elvis the greatest music icon of all time." Elvis last topped the UK album chart with 40 Greatest Hits, the album that commemorated his death in 1977. Music stores are also reporting that UK manufactured pop sensation Gareth Gates is set for number one in the singles chart with his version of the King's 1969 classic, 'Suspicious Minds'. (wenn)

Pop diva Whitney Houston's beautiful singing voice has been reduced to a croaking and screeching mess by her excessive partying, according to a US gossip magazine.

The National Enquirer reports that friends of the legend now fear she may never again sing like she once did, and that her US $100 million deal with Arista Records is in jeopardy due to her and husband Bobby Brown's hard partying. A friend of the sexy songstress mourns, "It's a tragedy. Whitney's wonderful vocal skills have been seriously affected. Financially-troubled Mel B is making a desperate attempt to reform the Spice Girls. Scary Spice, whose solo singing career has been far from spectacular, jetted to the US on Monday for emergency talks with Mel C about reviving the band. Not content with persuading the four remaining members of the group to get back on board, Mel is also hoping that Geri Halliwell will consider spicing up her life again. "Both Posh and Sporty have said that the band is finished, but Mel B wants one last go," a pal tells this morning's Sun. "Music is where her heart is - and she has nothing left in that area. It's all very ironic. Mel was the one who originally engineered the band's split to go solo, but she has had some financial troubles recently."

Benicio's New Dahling

Hollywood actor Benicio Del Toro has finally convinced model Sophie Dahl to go out with him, it has been reported.

Del Toro first met Dahl in 2001 after winning his Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Traffic, and pursued her all night at a post-Oscar party, but to no avail.

But, according to the Daily Mirror, all that has changed as the couple were spotted enjoying themselves at New York nightclub, Bungalow 8.

A source told the paper: "They were together all night and seemed to be getting on very well.

"He was all over Sophie and she wasn't exactly fighting him off. She was giggling away and they were flirting non-stop.

"They looked really close ...You couldn't help notice the chemistry between them."

The newspaper went on to report that the following night Del Toro returned to the club, but this time "with a whole bunch of girls".

Dahl has previously been linked with the likes of Mick Jagger and Tim Jeffries.

Shakira teams with Reebok for marketing campaign

Colombian singer Shakira has signed an endorsement deal with Reebok that will be marketed under the sportswear giant's Sounds & Rhythm Of Sport platform. The company will debut retail collections of footwear and apparel that capture the Grammy Award-winning singer's youth, style, and energy beginning in spring 2003.

"We're meant to be together," said Shakira of her new role as a Reebok spokesperson. "My music crosses cultural boundaries to reach today's youth world. Reebok understands what young people around the world are all about. By joining their team, I am able to fuse my style and music with Reebok's products and marketing to further connect with this global audience."

Both collections will be supported by a comprehensive marketing campaign that will include television and print advertising, outdoor billboards, in-store displays, and consumer promotions. The first television spot featuring Shakira will air in April 2003.

Shakira is the first female artist to join Reebok's Sounds & Rhythm Of Sport brand campaign. Other artists previously featured in the campaign include hip-hop stars Fabolous, Scarface, and Jadakiss, who starred in a TV spot with NBA star Allen Iverson in January to promote Iverson's signature shoe, the Answer V.

Rock diva Courtney Love was all set to party the other night, but then she decided she didn't like her face. Love rolled up to Veruka in her SUV, planning to spend some time inside with the likes of Esther Canadas, Tyra Banks and Kimora Lee Simmons. Instead, witnesses say, the former punk urchin spent half an hour in the vehicle, fussing with her make-up and shouting at her assistant before peeling off into the night.

Stephen King has no qualms about quitting the writing business. Asked if he would miss the rush of seeing a new novel come out, the horror-meister replied, "Absolutely not. Would I miss that? What? Madge gives Hugh the Brit flick

Rumours abound that, despite persistently bad reviews, Madonna is to appear in another film. Her latest venture is said to be a cameo role in Richard Curtis' new film, Love Actually, starring Hugh Grant. "There are cameo roles in it," a film insider confirms to the Evening Standard. "But I am not sure if I can disclose who they are at the moment." If the reports are true, the Material Girl will be joining a host of British talent including, Colin Firth, Liam Neeson, Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman in the movie. Filming on Love Actually started three weeks ago, with Hugh Grant as a British Prime Minister, who falls for his tea lady, played by Martine McCutcheon. The project is described as a Robert Altman-style comedy, featuring 10 different love stories that climax on Christmas Eve.

Britney Gets New Tattoo

Pop princess Britney Spears has done it again - she's had a new tattoo done on her lower back.

The 20-year-old superstar already has tattoos on her lower back and right foot and revealed her latest art-work at the Hollywood premiere of Kate Hudson's new movie The Four Feathers earlier this week.

An onlooker says, "It's quite hard to see but at the base of her lower back she has a small fairy done. Not that anybody noticed it, they were too busy looking at what she was wearing!" (WENN)

Vinnie Jones Teaching Madonna To Shoot

Superstar Madonna has found a new shooting teacher, movie hardman Vinnie Jones. The retired soccer star, who started a new career as an actor in Madonna's husband Guy Ritchie's hit Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels, was drafted in to help the Material Girl because of his real-life skill with a shotgun.

Vinnie and Madonna shoot together on the singer's US $4.5 million stately home, Ashcombe House on the Wiltshire, Dorset border and at a range in west London. The Mean Machine hardman explains, "We've been to a range in west London to practice. It has all been put on hold for the moment as she has gone off to LA for a while. Nolte Checks Into Rehab Clinic

Oscar-nominated actor Nick Nolte has checked into a Connecticut substance abuse centre.

The move follows his arrest in California on suspicion of driving under the influence of drink or drugs.

Nolte went into the centre on September 14 just a few days after he was arrested in Malibu.

Nolte's publicist, Paul Bloch, said the star of Cape Fear and Down and Out in Beverly Hills had admitted himself.

"Nick Nolte voluntarily entered Silver Hill Hospital to receive advice and counsel that he feels he needs at this time," Mr Bloch said.

"He will be there as long as he feels is necessary."

Silver Hill has also recently treated singers Billy Joel and Diana Ross. The actor had been driving his black 1992 Mercedes-Benz.

He was seen swerving into oncoming highway lanes by California Highway Patrol officers conducting an unrelated traffic operation.

The arresting officer described Nolte as dishevelled and drooling.

He was arrested halfway through a roadside sobriety test because it was clear he was under the influence, a police spokesman said.

Results of a blood test are still pending. A court hearing has been scheduled for October 28.

Nolte, who was released on bail, once described himself as a "functioning drunk."

He reportedly quit alcohol and became a fitness buff in the 1990s.

The 61-year-old star was nominated for Oscars for 1991's The Prince of Tides and 1997's Affliction.

He also received an Emmy nomination for his role as Tom Jordache in the 1976 television mini series Rich Man, Poor Man.

Next year, Nolte appears as Dr David Banner in director Ang Lee's The Hulk.

Aussie pop starlet Holly Valance has found a new man - and he's a Brit!

The raunchy singer is living in London and is reported to have been seeing student Steve Aspinall, 23, who is studying economics at Newcastle.

Holly's relationship with long-term boyfriend Pete Veveris is said to be under strain as he remains Down Under.

The singer, whose new single is Down Boy, was introduced to Steve through her makeup artist, according to The Mirror.

"They got on instantly," said one source. "They went clubbing and she invited him round for dinner at her penthouse."

Even Holly's mother is already a fan of Steve's and is reportedly encouraging the relationship.

Steve is no stranger to the world of showbiz. He once dated Zoe Jordan, daughter of Formula One team boss Eddie Jordan, and was a hopeful on the new series of Model Behaviour, though he only got as far as the third round.

Holly is so keen on Steve that she is said to be planning to visit him in Newcastle while he does his final year of studies.

Mexican actress Salma Hayek has revealed how she was once kidnapped - and enjoyed the experience.

In 1982 she was abducted at gunpoint and held for ransom with her wealthy college boyfriend, who was the real target.

Enjoying the drama, Salma responded to the death threats with a philosophical demeanour.

She said: "They put a gun to my head and I said 'kill me - I believe in reincarnation, I'll just come back'.

Hollywood stars John Travolta and Olivia Newton John are set to be reunited in a blockbusting follow-up to the 1970s movie classic Grease. The reunion movie, set 20 years after the original, is being written in Hollywood and will follow the adult lives of Danny and Sandy, the characters the two stars played in the 1978 hit musical.

On the lam

Half of the comedy team "Jay and Silent Bob" is missing and feared dead. Jason Mewes, who's played the drug-loving "Jay" in such Kevin Smith flicks as "Chasing Amy," "Clerks" and "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back," has not been seen by friends or family since an arrest warrant was issued for him 10 months ago. Mewes was sentenced to two years' probation after pleading guilty to heroin possession in 2000. Now the Chicago Sun-Times reports his friends believe he's either dead or on the lam in a country that doesn't have an extradition treaty with the United States.

Robbie Set For TV Acting Debut

Robbie Williams has reportedly landed a role in an American TV comedy.

He has agreed to film a cameo role for Keen Eddie - a new show for the Fox network.

The popstar will fly from Los Angeles to Elstree Studios in London to film his scenes over the next few weeks.

Robbie, who is currently negotiating a new record deal, is eager to break into acting.

He is said to be bidding for a role in the next Star Wars movie and hopes that Keen Eddie will be his big break.

The show stars ex-ER actor Mark Valley, who plays Eddie Arlette, a down-on-his-luck New York detective.

After being dumped by his girlfriend and messing up a drug bust, Eddie is sent to England.

He shares a flat with Fiona, to be played by British actress Sienna Miller.

The comedy is being billed as the "next big US telly sensation", according to The Sun.

Williams is currently living in LA and is dating Rod Stewart's ex-wife Rachel Hunter.

$500m hurts!

Dr Dre protege, Truth Hurts, has been sued for $500 million in a case of alleged copyright infringement.

Indian music and film company, Saregama India Ltd, claims the US star used an unlicensed sample in her breakthrough hit, 'Addictive'.

According to the suit, 'Addictive' features a sample of the 20-year-old track, 'Thoda Resham Lagta Hai', originally performed by popular Indian artist Lata Mangeshkar.

Dedra S. Davis, a lawyer representing Saregama, told MTV: "When you hear it, it's like, 'Oh my god, they didn't even try to get original with it. [They didn't] try to change it up or anything like that."

Universal Music Group are yet to comment on the matter.

Truth Hurts, Interscope Records, its parent company Universal Music Group, album producer Dr Dre and his label, Aftermath Records are all named as defendants in the lawsuit, filed in Texas last week (Sept 12).

A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for November 22.

Ex-Saints' Abortion Shock

Nicole Appleton has revealed she had an abortion when she became pregnant to ex-fiance Robbie Williams.

She said: "After having my abortion I was in shock. I couldn't believe what I had done.

"I wanted to kill myself."

Nic is spilling the beans on her relationships in a new book, co-written with sister Natalie.

The book, called Together, is being serialised by The Mail On Sunday and the Daily Mail.

Nicole said: "What happened still lingers in my life. I want people to know what I went through."

She said superstar Robbie backed her decision to reveal details of her abortion and told her: "I'm so proud of you. You're so brave."

Nicole is now engaged to Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher. They have a 14-month-old son, Gene.

She was twice engaged to Robbie before he ended the stormy 18-month relationship for good.

Robbie and Liam have since been embroiled in a long running public feud, trading insults on and off stage.

Natalie Set For Silver Screen

Australian soap star turned chart-topping singer Natalie Imbruglia now has her sights set on Hollywood.

Imbruglia, whose "Left in the Middle" album has sold more than six million copies, revealed that she is now in talks with casting agents in Los Angeles and taking classes to teach her to speak with an American accent.

"I am enjoying learning again and I want people to know that I am available for films because I wasn't when I was doing my music," the 27-year-old star told the Sun.

She argued that if fellow Australian Guy Pearce, the star of "LA Confidential," can graduate from soaps to Hollywood, then so can she.

"There is a lot of snobbery towards soap stars but it's great training for young actors. I'm not embarrassed I was a soap star.

"It got me started and Guy Pearce has proved you can cross over," she said.

Madonna Gives Guy A Religious Birthday Bash

Pop superstar Madonna gave her British film-maker husband Guy Ritchie a 34th birthday to remember - turning it into a totally religious experience.

The "Material Girl" threw the bash on the Snatch helmer's actual birthday, 10 September, at the Kabbalah Centre in New York.

A source says, "Guests were told a couple of weeks ago to keep the day open.

"To keep it all under wraps, Madonna didn't say the location beforehand - she just had cars sent to the guests' homes to pick them up and bring them to the centre."

Once there, says the source, they had a party but also participated in a study class of the Kabbalah, the mystical branch of Judaism that Madonna, 44, has been studying for the past five years and which Ritchie is now ardently following.

Rocker Lenny Kravitz is selling off some of his more unusual furnishings as he plans a complete redecoration of his New Orleans home.

The dreaded singer, 38, is offering more than 1,700 pieces of antique furniture and general bric-a-brac for sale to the public.

The auction will include chandeliers, candlesticks, pillows, chairs, sofas and mirrors.

Pink To Perform At Fashion Awards

(Katrillion) -- Pink will get this party started by performing at the 2002 VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards, hosted by "Will & Grace" girl Debra Messing.

The "Missundaztood" maven will join other stars including Santana, Michelle Branch and David Bowie on stage for the show, which airs live from New York's Radio City Music Hall Oct. 15.

This isn't your typical awards show. The Red Carpet Award, Revolutionary Designer Award and Most Influential Artist Award are among the prizes superstars and fashionistas are vying to win.

Moby's "We Are All Made of Stars," Shakira's "Objection (Tango)," and White Stripes' "Fell In Love With A Girl" will compete for the Visionary Video Award.

Music and fashion professionals choose the winner in all categories but Visionary Video and Designer of the Year. Those winners are determined by votes from the channel's Website.

See Who's Back for More 'Pie'

(Katrillion) -- A third helping of "Pie" will be getting under way as early as January.

That's right, production on the third installment of the "American Pie" series has been greenlit for a Jan. 11 start date, according to columnists Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith.

And while things are certainly moving along at a rapid pace, there are plenty of changes in the works that could upset a few "Pie" fanatics.

First off, the film is not going to be called "American Pie 3," but rather "American Wedding." Hmmm, could Jim have actually found his bride?

While there's no word on the exact premise of the flick, the cast has been announced and many regulars have chosen not to return.

Chris Klein, Tara Reid, Shannon Elizabeth, Mena Suvari and Natasha Lyonne have all opted out of the film, but plenty of the guys (and our favorite band geek) will be reprising their roles.

Jason Biggs, Sean William Scott, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Eugene Levy and Alyson Hannigan will all be returning. There's also going to be one new character who's out to get naughty with the boys -- the band geek's little sister!

Hawn Got Help With Role From Daughter

LOS ANGELES (AP) Goldie Hawn got some help from her daughter to play the role of Suzette in "The Banger Sisters."

Hawn plays a former rock groupie who hasn't grown up, but she was hampered by the fact that she never idolized rock stars when she was growing up. Hawn's daughter Kate Hudson played the groupie Penny Lane in the critically acclaimed "Almost Famous."

"Katie was great. She gave me a lot of tips and we talked about my wardrobe and hair," Hawn said.

Hawn says she was never into the drug culture that is often associated with rock groupies.

"I lived a different kind of life. I wasn't a stoner, I wasn't a drinker. I got married very young," Hawn said. "It just wasn't my world."

"The Banger Sisters" staring Hawn and Susan Sarandon, opens in theaters Friday.

Lil Kim is to star in the forthcoming action movie, Guns And Roses, dotmusic can confirm.

The film, written and directed by Jean Claude LaMarre, is described as an indie urban western and stars Lil Kim alongside one-time rap star Bobby Brown.

Set in the 1800s, Guns And Roses tells the tale of five female outlaws out to avenge the murder of one of their own.

According to reports, the movie is currently being filmed in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, New Line Cinema is said to be in final talks with rappers Method Man and Redman. The company hope to team up the hip hop stars for a new film, Ghetto Inc.

Spacey Blasts New York Magazine Inaccuracies

Oscar winner Kevin Spacey is urging readers of revered New York magazine to demand better standards of its journalists in a letter to the editor. Spacey wrote to complain about a story, in which it was alleged he was planning to move to Fire Island off Long Island, New York, insisting the piece was a "total inaccuracy." In the letter, printed in this week's issue, the actor took gossip columnist Marc Malkin to task for reporting that Spacey was renting a house on the island. Spacey insists he has never been to Fire Island, adding, "While I understand that most of your reporting is done in good fun and that this particular story does not appear to have been written with malicious intent, it is so completely untrue that it seems to warrant a reexamination by New York of the freedom it gives to reporters who write anything they want without concern for the facts."

Whitney Houston has missed out on yet another opportunity to resurrect her faltering career. The troubled diva, who regularly makes the headlines with her alleged drug problems, tantrums and marital ups and downs, was due to be presented with the Mobo Lifetime Achievement award at the 1 October ceremony. However, after failing to turn up to any rehearsals for her performance, organisers have decided to dump her. "Whitney was unreliable to say the least," a Mobo insider tells the Daily Mirror. "Everyone was thoroughly annoyed with her. Performing at the Mobos would have done wonders for her career. Mobo really wanted to give her the award and thought she would jump at the chance to receive it. But they were wrong." The prestigious honour is now expected to go to either Prince or Stevie Wonder.

Alicia Takes A Long Break

Exhausted Alicia Keys is following Britney Spears' example and has announced she's taking a 22-month vacation.

The 21-year-old "Fallin'" singer, who has just completed a sell-out tour of the US and is currently performing in Europe, is determined to take time off after working non-stop for the past two years, first recording and then promoting her smash-hit album Songs In A Minor.

A spokesman for the singer says, "She hasn't had an actual vacation since she started promotion for the album and now she wants to go someplace where she can relax and be herself - where nobody knows who she is."

Pepsi Rescues Bass' Space Dream

'N Sync star Lance Bass' space dreams are back on thanks to soft drink giants Pepsi. The soft drink giants have offered the pop star last minute sponsorship for his recently aborted attempt to become an astronaut, and Bass is now frantically trying to find out if he can make up the lost training days in time for the blast off in October.

Russian authorities vetoed his much publicised trip to the International Space Station earlier this month when the $20 million needed to fund his adventure failed to materialise by a fixed deadline.

Bass will resume training at the Star City facility near Moscow, Russia today, happy in the knowledge he'll have to put in 16-hour days and weekends to catch up. And if that's not enough to keep him in the running for the October flight, he plans to get himself super fit for a scheduled mission in April. The European Space Agency is considering two candidates for that flight, and since a third candidate hasn't made the flight crew list yet, room is still available for a 'space tourist' to take the last remaining seat.

A Bass source says, "Lance will be going to space. Nothing has changed, other than that if we can't come to terms for the October flight, it'll be April instead. The letter the Russian Space Agency sent to its space station partners at NASA, formally removing him from the crew for next month's mission means nothing. If they can send the letter, they can withdraw the letter."

New sponsor Pepsi has yet to officially announce its involvement, but a source close to the deal says the cola company is close to landing a US $35 million space marketing plan, which would pay for part of Bass' rocket ride and would also involve securing a seat on a Soyuz craft for the winner of a game show. Popstar Geri Halliwell has confessed she cannot sing well enough to make the band on Popstars: The Rivals - even though she is a judge on the ITV1 talent show.

The former Spice Girl admitted on the Frank Skinner Show that her voice was not nearly as good as many of the hopefuls she auditions.

The chat show host asked her: "If you were on as a contestant, would you make the girl band?"

And Geri immediately answered "No".

But then after a pause she added: "I really don't know."

When pushed by Skinner, the singer explained: "Under those circumstances, we are asking a hell of a lot.

"I can sing but we are picking the cream of the crop."

Rusty Flips His Lid At Waiter

Hollywood heartthrob Russell Crowe threatened to get a waiter sacked - for asking him a question about his films.

The outburst came when the young lad asked Crowe if he would be making a sequel to his box office hit, A Beautiful Mind.

He snapped: "Listen, if you don't stop bothering me, your only question will be 'Is there going to be a sequel to my job?'"

Grumpy Crowe was lunching at the swanky Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles when his composure cracked.

A source explained: "Waiters are forbidden to bother guests. But this young man is an actor, trying to break into showbiz and started asking lots of questions.

Geri Waxes Lyrical

Geri Halliwell has finally met her match - at the unveiling of a new wax figure of herself at Madam Tussaud's.

The former Spice girl, who is currently a judge on ITV's Popstars: The Rivals, seemed pleased to be part of a double act.

"It's a lot prettier than I am - but can the world really cope with two Geris?" she said.

Halliwell missed out on her first opportunity to be a waxwork at the museum because the Spice Girls were modelled after she left them.

But after a solo comeback she will now take her place, alongside models of pop diva Kylie Minogue and comedian Graham Norton, as a celebrity figure in her own right.

Tussaud's believes Halliwell will attract plenty of visitors.

A spokeswoman said: "Geri is everywhere at the moment, she is just so hot. We have had a lot of people asking after her."

Penelope Aims To Cruz Up Charts

Hollywood screen beauty Penelope Cruz has recorded a song for a new charity CD.

The 28-year-old star admits that she was a little nervous about lending her voice to the album.

When she opened her mouth to sing, "nothing would come out because I felt when you are singing, you are naked," she told Elle magazine.

The star of Captain Corelli's Mandolin and Blow took two months of singing lessons before recording the duet with Spanish singer Joan Manuel Serrat.

The CD has been put together to raise money for the Sebera Foundation, which provides food, shelter, medical care and education to homeless girls in India.

Despite her busy schedule, Cruz says that she and boyfriend, Tom Cruise, make sure that they spend as much time together as they can.

The lead singer of Swedish rock band Roxette has been diagnosed with brain cancer.

Marie Fredriksson was rushed to hospital after a fall and tests revealed the deadly tumour in her brain. Friends of the blonde singer had hoped her ill health had been down to overwork, but following the diagnosis further tests are required to measure the full extent of the problem.

McCartney Accused Of Cutting Out The Kids

Rock legend Paul McCartney has allegedly cut his children out of his will - leaving all his wealth to new wife Heather Mills.

According to US news site MSNBC.COM, the former Beatle has amended his will so his sole beneficiary will be landmine campaigner Mills.

Reports of a rift between McCartney's children Heather, Mary, Stella and James and their new stepmother have surfaced since he first became engaged to Mills. She insists relations are warm within the close family and even claimed that Stella had issued a press release saying the pair were close.

Madonna has stepped in with financial help for a school friend of her daughter Lourdes, whose mother is suffering from a deadly disease.

The pop queen has arranged for a limousine to ferry the youngster to school each day after she stopped attending when her mum began experiencing the symptoms of a blood disorder.

She and film director husband Guy Ritchie are also shelling out for expert medical care for the ill woman - and Madonna has promised to look after the child should anything happen to her mother.

A source tells Britain's Daily Star newspaper, "Lourdes met the girl at the Kabbalah Children's Academy and the pair quickly became pals.

Kylie: I'm Healthy

Pop princess Kylie Minogue has hit out at rumours she's suffered a nervous breakdown, insisting she's taken time off to spend with her family.

British tabloid reports last week claimed the antipodean singer had fled to the Australian outback for a month after her mother Carol ordered her to cancel all engagements and promotional activities for her new single.

Popular daily The Sun cited the singer's split from model James Gooding and exhaustion as a cause for the collapse, quoting a source as saying, "Kylie is so worn out, both physically and mentally, she just can't go on.

"This has been the busiest year of her life and she's also gone through the mill with James. Some stuff that's been said has really knocked her about mentally."

But the star insists the holiday with her mum was planned - and she's feeling fine.

Kylie's spokeswoman says, "Kylie has gone on holiday with her family for a few weeks, she has not had a breakdown. This vacation was planned months ago and she has just decided to take a break after a busy year.

"She was only in the office the other day and she was her usual smiling cheery self."

Geri Halliwell is the latest celebrity to jump on the adoption bandwagon. The super-skinny chanteuse, who is currently fronting ITV's Popstars: The Rivals, told DJ Steve Wright that she would "so love" to have a baby and will certainly adopt one if she fails to find a suitable man. "Having a baby must be the greatest gift of any human being," she mused. "To learn about selflessness and to watch your own child run down the street in a Batman costume, all free and just with the biggest smile on its face. I might just adopt. I would seriously consider that." Halliwell is so set on motherhood that she is already considering names for her offspring: "It doesn't really matter what you call your baby - they grow into their names," she said, adding that her first choice would be Hamlet.

A Jolie good name

Angelina Jolie has gone to court to remove all traces of her father from her life. The Tomb Raider star is so embarrassed by Jon Voight's behaviour that she wants to legally change her last name to Jolie. Last month Voight spoke out on American television pleading with his daughter to "get help" for "serious mental problems." He also claimed that Jolie had prevented him from having any access to his 13-month-old grandson Maddox. In the latest episode of the sage, Angelina has filed a motion in the Los Angeles Superior Court to drop Voight forever. When approached for confirmation of the move, Jolie's spokesman curtly stated: "We have no comment on that."

Truth Hurts Cuts R Kelly Out Of Video

R&B star Truth Hurts is determined not to let R. Kelly's legal problems get in the way of her chart aspirations - she's leaving him out of her new video.

The Dr Dre protegee teamed up with Kelly, who is facing charges of child molestation in Chicago, for her new single "The Truth", and though she has no plans to remove the soul star's vocals she doesn't want him in her promo.

The duet was initially set to be Truth Hurt's debut, but she was forced to release "Addictive" when the Kelly controversy began - after the singer was allegedly caught on film making love to a minor.

She says, "We knew what song we were going to use, then all that drama happened with R Kelly and kind of destroyed our hopes of what we were going to do.

"R Kelly's not in the video. Instead we wanted a twist to a man cheating on a girl and a woman's reaction to that. So we kind of followed the guidelines of that movie. It has a little comedy in it. It's gonna be cute - all girls." (WENN)

A ruthless biographer is set to expose Sheryl Crow as a mentally unstable woman who slept her way to the top.

Richard Buskin's Sheryl Crow: No Fool To This Game paints a very different picture of the rocker to the one most fans are familiar with.

Buskin's book, which is scheduled for release in October, makes claims that Crow has manipulated men and situations in her bid to make it big - while battling debilitating psychological problems which led to depression and brief psychiatric care.

Sexy singing sensation Jennifer Lopez has received a stunningly expense watch from lover Ben Affleck - and her mum got one too.

The "Love Don't Cost A Thing" star was in an Atlantic City, New Jersey jewellers with her new beau when he spotted the US$25,000 Rolex.

J.LO, famed for her expensive pop star image, was reluctant to even try on the watch at first, but Jersey Girl co-star Affleck convinced her to at least see whether it suited her. When it looked perfect, Affleck reached for his credit card and doubled the order.

A source says, "Ben started looking at the Rolex watches and picked out a beautiful platinum watch with a diamond dial and bevel - and diamonds on the band. You could tell Jennifer loved the watch but she told Ben, 'Honey, thank you, but I don't want it. It's beautiful but I just couldn't.'

"But after she tried it on, Ben easily persuaded Jennifer he just had to get it for his girl. Then Ben did the most romantic thing he could. He stunned Jennifer by picking out an almost identical Rolex for her mother.

"Jennifer was floored. She was so happy she gave Ben a big hug and a kiss, and thanked him over and over."

Destiny's Child Kelly Rowland and fellow R'n'B star Nelly's "very good" friendship has reportedly moved onto a romantic plain.

Whilst Rowland's representative dismisses the suggestion, instead confirming, "They are very good friends," the sexy singer has been joined by the 22-year-old at the Soul Train Lady Of Soul awards in Pasadena, California, as well as making several appearances together on Los Angeles radio shows.

Whitney Sued By Father

Things haven't been going well for Whitney Houston over the last week. Her father John is suing her for US $100 million. The 81-year-old parent claims the singer, 39, has failed to pay his entertainment company for services, despite him helping her escape drug charges and sign a big recording contract.

Earlier this week Whitney and husband Bobby Brown were told to attend court after breaching water-use restrictions by leaving sprinklers on overnight in their New Jersey home.

John's lawsuit was filed in New Jersey Superior Court and accused Whitney of breaching her contract with his firm. A source told Britain's Daily Star tabloid, "John saved Whitney from destroying her career, but she has never paid him anything. He's ashamed of her." (wenn)

Rod Stewart's son has been sentenced to 90 days in prison for assault with a deadly weapon. Sean Stewart was accused of attacking and rendering unconscious 19-year-old Jason Rogland in Malibu at the end of last year. The 22-year-old was restrained by Superman star Dean Cain, who happened to be in the area with his brother. In court, the pop legend's son did not flinch as the judge condemned him. On leaving the hearing, a bespectacled Rod Stewart said: "I just don't want to talk about it. He's doing great."

Mel's Girl Gets In The Habit

Mel Gibson has spoken of his delight at his only daughter becoming a nun.

The Hollywood star's 21-year-old offspring, Hannah, is joining a religious order.

"I believe in God and I was happy when my daughter decided to become a nun," said the devout Catholic.

Gibson, 46, is currently in Italy shooting a film in which he plays Jesus.

But the Australian-born actor attacked the Vatican saying he did not believe in the Church as an institution.

"I agree with people who say the Vatican is a wolf in sheep's clothing."

The dad-of-seven has a chapel in his Malibu home.

Jacko Pauses Music For Movies

Michael Jackson wants to take a couple of years off from the music business to pursue a career in film.

Jackson, who recently made a cameo appearance in Men In Black II, said he had always wanted to work in the movie business.

"I've always wanted to do film, but the tours got in the way," he said.

"That's why I want to take several years off just doing film.

"I'd like to get six great movies behind me, and then I'll do a little bit of touring, then I'll do more filming," he told Gold magazine.

The singer also said there was some truth in speculation that he wanted to recreate his famous moonwalk on the moon.

There had been talk that the star was teaming up with one of the members of the Apollo 14 mission to become the first pop star to be launched into space.

The music legend said he found it difficult that "there was nowhere in the world" he could enjoy privacy because people knew his best disguises.

Jackson, who said he enjoyed visiting theme parks after hours, said he was trying to make up for a lost childhood.

"When I was seven, eight years old I was in nightclubs. I saw striptease girls take off all their clothes. I saw fights break out. I saw people throw up on each other. I saw adults act like pigs.

"That's why I compensate now for what I didn't do then. So when you come to my house, you'll see I have rides, I have a movie theatre, I have animals," he added.

Mel B To Spice Up Hollywood

Mel B is heading to Hollywood to revive her showbiz career - but in films rather than in music.

The Spice Girl said she wanted to "reinvent" herself as a serious actress.

Her pop career is on hold as she puts her energy into exploring new roles.

"I'm going to LA to meet some producers about roles they've got in mind for me," she said, speaking to the Daily Star.

"I've been sent loads of scripts and I'm trying to find the best one."

"I want to stay true to my roots and do a British film first but I look forward to America."

Robbie Quits Britain For Good

Pop hunk Robbie Williams is moving to the United States permanently, and is going by the name Robert. The Rock DJ singer, 28, has spent the past year in California since conquering a drink and drug problem.

The former Take That star admits in the updated version of his autobiography 'Somebody, Someday' that he is settled indefinitely in Los Angeles. When looking for somewhere to call home, Robbie considered buying his hero Frank Sinatra's former house, which is up for sale for a whopping US $9 million.

Robbie explains, "It's really nice, but the house is right next to the main strip and all you can hear in traffic." He eventually found another property which he "totally blown away by."

Robbie's co-author Mark McCrum says of Robbie's break from showbiz, "He never really did have that year off, though he's not been doing much except writing and relaxing these last few months, and moving to America of course. This studio we're in is in Los Angeles, where Rob has bought a house and is now living full time."

In the book, Robbie finally admits model Rachel Hunter, the estranged wife of Rod Stewart is "my girlfriend." And Robbie is insisting his new American pals call him Robert, in a bid to distance himself from the "old Robbie" who indulged in drugs, alcohol and sex. His manager David Enthoven says, "Now he's going out at Robert and making friends and not making friends. J.Lo's No Talk Divorce Deal With Judd

Jennifer Lopez's dancer husband Cris Judd had plans in place to release a tell-all book about his brief union with the star - until he realised it would jeopardise his divorce settlement.

Judd, who wed J.LO in a Californian ceremony last year, separated from the singer and actress in June after just nine months of marriage.

And his plans to publish a warts-and-all tome on his life with the New York native were thwarted when he was told that he wouldn't see a cent of his US$15 million (S$27 million) settlement if he pressed ahead with the book.

A source tells American magazine US Weekly, "At one point, he was going to write a book, but she freaked out."

Part of the divorce agreement, claims the source, is that Lopez, 32, would give Judd "$15 million and that he would not write a book about her."

Kylie Minogue has reportedly suffered a breakdown and escaped to an Australian outback hideaway.

The pop queen and her mum are heading to Western Australia to cut themselves off from the world and study Aboriginal spiritual teachings, reports The Sun.

Kylie broke down on the Paris set of her new video, Come Into My World, last week and her devoted mum Carol ordered her to fly home two days ago.

The former Neighbours star has cleared her diary for the next month to recharge her batteries.

Pals say a hectic work schedule has finally taken its toll and that public comments by ex-boyfriend James Gooding have tipped her over the edge.

Last week he was quoted as saying the relationship had been over for ages.

Diminutive singer Geri Halliwell has been turned down in her bid to record the theme tune for the upcoming Charlie's Angel sequel. The former Spice Girl whose last single 'Calling' flopped in November, was hoping the chance would give her solo career a much needed boost after seeing Destiny's Child's monster hit track 'Independent Women Part I' storm the charts worldwide with the first action movie in 2000.

The Pretenders have made Russell Crowe an offer he couldn't refuse. "So I think we'll be taking them out with us in America in January and February."

Winona Ryder Had Shoplifted Before

Prosecutors in the Winona Ryder shoplifting case have confirmed they have evidence the Heathers actress had stolen from shops before. Following a range of reports that the star was no first time thief, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office has filed a motion declaring it has the evidence to prove the stories true. According to entertainment site E! Online, there is no news yet of what such evidence might constitute, or whether it will be brought up in the actress' much-delayed trial when it eventually reaches court. Ryder was arrested on December 12 for allegedly lifting nearly $6,000 worth of handbags, hair bows and assorted goodies from the Saks Fifth Avenue department store in Beverly Hills, California. She faces felony counts of grand theft, second-degree burglary, vandalism and unlawful possession of the prescription painkiller oxycodone. The star has pleaded innocent to all charges. A trial date in her case could be set tomorrow, although Ryder's attorney is currently tied up in another trial and may ask for another postponement.

'Pirates' Hit By Blaze

A fire has hit the Hollywood set of Johnny Depp's new movie Pirates Of The Caribbean, causing $525,000 worth of damage. According to a Los Angeles Fire Brigade spokesman no one was injured in the blaze at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California. The fire was extinguished after 50 minutes. The spokesperson says, "The cause is now under investigation, but it involved the set preparation and a type of foam that they carve into different shapes to use." A Disney source insists the fire won't hold-up production of the film - which co- stars Lord Of The Rings actor Orlando Bloom and Oscar- winner Geoffrey Rush. The flick is due to hit theatre screens next summer.

Minnelli Thanks Fans with Auction

Liza Minnelli is holding an internet auction of her clothes next month so she can give something back to her multitude of fans. The star, recently married to David Gest, has a 1,000 strong collection of top designer names, including items from her films such as Cabaret and Arthur - all of which will be available from New York's Gotta Have It Auctions. Charity president Robert Schagrin explains, "Since Liza and David married and began adopting a child, they decided it was time to give everything back to the fans."

Kidman Shocks with Frightful Frizz

Sexy movie star Nicole Kidman has caused a rumpus in Hollywood by letting her hair down - into a "frightful frizz." The Moulin Rouge actress, famed for her flowing red locks, showed off a new style of crumpled curls when she lunched with friends in Los Angeles this week - and shocked onlookers more used to the perfectly coiffured hairstyles that proliferate in Tinseltown. An onlooker says, "Nicole's hair was definitely a talking point. It is amazing that she went out in public with it looking so bad. Verne Troyer's Emergency Operation

There's even less to Austin Powers star Verne Troyer now - he's just had his appendix removed. The diminutive screen star was taken to a Los Angeles hospital on 28 August to undergo the operation. His manager Elena Bertagnolli says, "Verne was at my house that day, and he started not feeling well at all ... So I drive him to the hospital and, sure enough, the doctors decided it was necessary to take his appendix out." Troyer, 33, had surgery that afternoon and spent the next five days recuperating in hospital. Bertagnolli adds, "The doctors say he's doing fine."

Gwyneth Paltrow Plans Lavish 30th Birthday Bash

Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow plans to celebrate her approaching 30th birthday in style - with a lavish party in the Italian home of fashion designer pal Valentino. The Shakespeare In Love stunner, who will see in her big day on 28 September, and hopes that her planned celebrations will be unforgettable. Fashion maven Valentino, 70, recently hosted Paltrow on his 150-foot yacht, Tm Blue One, for a cruise down the Adriatic Coast, culminating with their arrival at the opening ceremony of the 59th Venice International Film Festival in Italy on August 29. The birthday party, a source tells American magazine Us Weekly, is being limited to 50 friends, mostly from New York and Los Angeles, and will include good friend Sadie Frost and her husband Jude Law, who co-starred with Paltrow in The Talented Mr Ripley.

Dazzling Diaz Makes Waves

Cameron Diaz rules the waves in her latest movie - the new Charlie's Angel film.

The movie is still in production but Cameron has been seen on the set in Malibu making a splash.

Diaz, who is filming with co-stars Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore has been spotted taking a surfboard out for a spin in the Pacific surf.

Looking svelt, the former model, who turned 30 last month, ran down the beach in a white bikini with a board under her arm.

She edged slowly into the swell where she received instruction and encouragement from a surfer.

The former model may well have been getting in some practice for a sea-quence in the movie which sees all three angels back in action.

Even if her skills won't see her join the pro circuit anytime soon, Cameron must be on the crest of a wave after netting a £13m deal for the film, placing her amongst Hollywood's top earning female stars.

Jaclyn Smith, one of the Angels from the original 70's TV show on which the film is based and British funny man John Cleese, also star in the film which is due for release next year.

Drugs tests after erratic driving

American actor Nick Nolte has been arrested by police in California under suspicion of driving while drunk or on drugs. Police collared the 'drooling, droopy-eyed' actor after his black Mercedes was seen swerving over the road near his home in Malibu. California Highway Patrol spokesman Leland Tang said that the 61-year-old was 'completely out of it,' and that 'he seemed completely under the influence'. Although the results of blood tests will not be released for a few days, another helpful policeman, Captain Dan Bower, explained, 'it probably wasn't alcohol.' Despite Nolte's state, police said that he was 'extremely pleasant and cooperative' when pulled over. The twice Oscar-nominated Nolte has a reputation as a boozer, once famously claiming to be a 'functioning drunk', although he apparently gave up drink and drugs in the 90s. However, he claims to have taken heroin to 'add realism' to his latest film, The Good Thief.

'T3' Wraps Production in the Buff

(Katrillion) -- For the last day of production, "Terminator 3" let it all hang out!

The cast and crew of the highly anticipated action flick completed the shoot right on time, but the final scene certainly required a lot of nerve from the film's female lead, Kristanna Loken.

The last sequence, which was shot on Monday, was one in which the female Terminator arrives on Earth. However, as with all the "Terminator" flicks, when arriving on Earth, the futuristic machines are always naked. This time around, the arrival was quite the public one -- the female Terminator was appearing on Rodeo Drive!

Imagine heading down to Rodeo for some quality window-shopping and getting way more than Gucci eye candy. Well, that's what plenty of shoppers and tourists got on Monday.

"Because there are so many tourists, the challenge was to shoot that scene with Kristanna without attracting too many lookyloos," director Jonathan Mostow told Variety.

"Terminator 3: The Rise of the Machines" opens in theaters on July 2, 2003.

Mariah's Desperate Measures

Sultry singer Mariah Carey is taking desperate measures to ensure her new album is a hit, after the disastrous reception to her last musical venture 'Glitter'. The curvy blonde was paid U.S $28 million in January to leave Virgin Records after only eight months with the label and announced in May she would release a disc under her own imprint belonging to the Island/Def Jam Music Group.

On her official website Mariah is encouraging her devotees, who she affectionately refers to a "lambs," to help promote her forthcoming LP. The site enthuses, "Get in on all the fun. Mariah has a new album coming out soon and is looking for your help to promote it." Instead of pay cheques, the starlet's "online street team" will receive t-shirts, stickers and "a chance to feel closer than ever to Mariah."

Robbie To Release Under His Own Label

Pop prince Robbie Williams is reportedly planning to turn down a multi-million dollar record deal, to release his new LP under his own label. Since his deal with EMI expired earlier this year Robbie has been courted by labels including Sony, Warner and Universal, who are all desperate to snap up the singer's new album 'Escapology', slated for release in November.

Current bids are thought to be around the U.S $90 million mark. But sources close to the star say Robbie's planning to turn down all offers and set up his own label instead, a move that would strike fear through the hearts of record company bosses. An industry insider says, "The record companies are offering him megabuck deals to sign up with them. And it's not just because they know Robbie's new album will sell millions, they don't want him to set a precedent for other stars by striking out on his own. They rely on the likes of Robbie as their safe-bets for big sales. If he and other big stars desert them, it will be a financial disaster." (wenn)

Stars Remember 9/11

Bono, Paul McCartney and Sting have posted their 9/11 memories on a memorial website.

The rock stars are among those taking time to remember 11 September, 2001, on Internet site SEPTEMBER11TH.COM.

McCartney writes, "As the airport was then closed, I stayed in New York for a week after the attack and I was able to also witness the tremendous heroism that has come out of the city, including the bravery of the firefighters and police officers. I have great admiration for the courage all of those guys showed."

Bono, thinking of the future, offers, "We think the only fitting memorial for those who lost their lives on September 11 is to build not just a safer, less dangerous world but a fairer world where all people have a chance to live life."

And Sting, who was in Tuscany, Italy, preparing to perform an Internet concert at his home, has offered up his thoughts from the day itself - when he questioned whether he should actually be performing on such a tragic day: "I just want us to stand and think about what has happened today. It's difficult for all of us - I'm angry, I'm confused, I'm frightened and I don't really want to give this meaningless act of violence any credence. It's totally and utterly pointless." (WENN)

Eminem's Movie Hits It Off At Toronto Film Festival

Rapper Eminem's movie debut 8 Mile has been met with a host of good reviews at the film's world premiere. The hip-hop star was regrettably absent as the semi-autobiographical drama, directed by Curtis Hanson, opened at the annual Toronto Film Festival in the Canadian city.

The flick, which also stars Kim Basinger, Brittany Murphy and Mekhi Phifer, was screened in front of a huge crowd who queued for hours to get tickets. However, the film isn't quite ready for its November cinema openings, the sound effects are yet to be completed. (wenn)

Pop superstar Michael Jackson looks set to sign to Virgin Records, but only because his sister is throwing her weight around. Janet is one of Virgin's premiere artists and makes the company a lot of money so has some influence to exert. Now she is reportedly demanding the company sign up her brother following his bitter split from Sony.

However, Virgin bosses could be forgiven for being worried about taking on the fading star. His last boss Tommy Mottola was described by the wacky one as 'the devil'. Sadie Frost has given birth to her fourth child - a boy - five weeks early. Mrs Jude Law was spending the day with her pregnant pal Kate Moss when she went into the early stages of labour yesterday. Grabbing her overnight bag, Frost summoned a taxi and rushed to London's St Mary's hospital. But there was only one problem: the absence of her husband, who was filming his latest movie, Cold Mountain, in America. As soon as Jude heard that his wife was in hospital he caught the first flight home. "Sadie was really concerned that Jude was not going to be able to make it back from the States to be there for the birth," a source tells this morning's Mirror. "It really was a race against time for him to get back, but he made it." According to the paper, the couple have decided to call the newest addition to their family Rudy. Just days after getting married, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jnr have sparked off speculation that they are expecting a baby. The besotted duo, who wed in a romantic cliff-top setting in Mexico last week, told how children would be the perfect addition to their lives. "The only thing I want out of life now is to be a father," Freddie tells OK! magazine. "I'll be the best father you've ever seen. I'll win Father of the Year every time. Reeve Can Move His Toes and Fingers

Paralyzed actor Christopher Reeve is regaining his senses and can now move some of his fingers and toes. The Superman star, 49, has been in a wheelchair since a horse riding accident near Charlottesville, Virginia in May 1995. Doctors announced today Reeve is progressing well and they believe with his current rate of progress there is a chance he may walk again. Doctors from the Washington University School Of Medicine say Reeve can feel a pin prick over most of his body and is able to distinguish between hot and cold, and sharp and dull sensations. Doctor John McDonald explains, "No one who has suffered an injury as severe as Chris' and failed to have any initial recovery has regained the amount of motor and sensory function he has." Reeve was ecstatic to feel the hugs of his wife Dana and his three children Will, Matthew and Alexandra. He enthuses, "To be able to feel just the lightest touch is really a gift." The star's progress has cost him $420,000 a year in medical bills and therapy which includes electrical muscle stimulations and repetitive motion exercises to restart his motor skills.

Denzel Stars at British Black Filmmakers Awards

Hollywood star Denzel Washington has been voted Best Male Screen Personality at Britain's first Black film and TV awards ceremony. British TV actors rubbed shoulders with American stars including ER's Eriq LaSalle at last night's glittering celebrity at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London to mark the first Black Filmmakers Magazine (BFM) Film And Television Awards - dubbed Britain's black "Oscars." At a ceremony in which the honors were open "to individuals from the global African diaspora," Hollywood actress Angela Bassett won the Best Female Screen Personality award. Founder of the awards Charles Thomson enthuses, "I am delighted that for the first time ever, black British film makers and actors will have a real opportunity to show the world their talent."

David Hyde Pierce Injured on Set

Frasier star David Hyde Pierce is recovering in hospital after falling on his head during the shooting of an episode of the hit American sit-com. The actor fell during a routine stunt last week and injured himself, but co-star Peri Gilpin is convinced he'll make a full recovery. The actress - who plays Roz in the show - says, "He's doing great. Everyone has been by his bedside. The doctor had to throw us out."

Timberlake Fan Killed

A female fan of pop heart-throb Justin Timberlake was killed by a hit-and-run driver while waiting to see her idol. The 'N Sync singer was making a guest appearance to promote his debut solo album Justified at a Los Angeles radio station on Monday evening. Police said Cameron Duty, 23, allegedly had an argument with one of the crowd outside the station, then got into his truck and backed into the pavement full of Timberlake fans. Lapd spokesman Tim Stehr explains, "The truck, traveling in reverse at a high rate of speed, struck her and pinned her under the vehicle. It then went forward approximately one block with the victim still under the vehicle." Duty fled the scene, but was later arrested and faces charges of drink driving, murder, and hit-and-run. The name of the 21-year-old fan killed was not released.

Houston and Brown Fall Foul of Water Rule

R & B couple Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown have been told to attend court - for leaving their water sprinklers on. The pair have fallen foul of water-restriction rules in the American state of New Jersey by leaving the sprinklers at their home on overnight. Police were called to the property after a neighbor complained about the over-zealous gardening measure. But a spokeswoman for the couple said neither was at home during the incident or knew anything about the rule-breaking. The spokeswoman says, "A judge will understand that someone taking care of the property obviously made a mistake. Whitney is very conscious about the environment and she will care if in fact this (law) was breached." New Jersey officials imposed water-use restrictions last month because of ongoing drought conditions. Local policeman Lieutenant Jim Hughes says, "Nobody gets special treatment here." Houston is currently away from home recording her new album, Just Whitney.

Dillon's Diversity Ensures Low Profile

American hunk Matt Dillon knows he'll never be a bankable leading man - because he chooses quirky roles. The brooding actor, whose films include Drugstore Cowboy, Beautiful Girls and One Night At McCools, doesn't mind being passed over for straightforward Hollywood leading men, because he likes to keep things interesting. Now the star has taken a role on the other side of the camera, and helmed atmospheric suspense film City Of Ghosts, which was shot in Cambodia. He says, "I've never made things easy for myself. I like telling stories. Acting is great when the job is interesting - and sometimes it's not interesting. I like stories of intrigue. I like things in exotic settings, and Cambodia was an interesting place to me."

Holly's A Brit Saucy

Holly Valance has revealed she holds a British passport - and uses new mobile phone technology to send saucy pictures to her boyfriend.

The Australian singer sends the images to student Peter Ververis in Melbourne.

Former Neighbours star Holly, 19 and now based in London, confessed on Johnny Vaughan's BBC Choice show.

Holly said: "We talk about three or four times a day. We've got those new mobile phones you can take pictures with."

Asked what kind of pictures she was sending, Holly put her hand up her top.

Holly also disclosed she holds a British passport because her mother Rachel was born in Southampton and moved Down Under at the age of five.

Holly said her mother did't mind that she seemed to appear naked in the video for her first single Kiss Kiss.

She said: "I wasn't actually naked. I had a flesh-coloured bikini on. My parents were fine with it. They're really into marketing."

Bjork Stalked

Icelandic singer Bjork has vowed to abandon her celebrity lifestyle, so she doesn't attract any more stalkers. The singer was nearly the victim of one demented fan who sent her a letter bomb before killing himself, because he heard she was planning to marry drum 'n' bass star Goldie.

In order to prevent another dangerous situation Bjork now avoids showbiz events and refuses to sign autographs. She explains, "I still get crazy fans, but I didn't realise I could opt out of the fame thing until it was too late. I was going to all these parties and thinking 'Wow'. But it is hard work and being famous is a job in itself. I asked myself if I got into this business for the music or for the attention. I had to choose music." (wenn)

Details from the plot of the forthcoming series of Friends are emerging. According to reports from E! Online, Ross and Joey will trade punches when Ross becomes jealous of Joey's relationship with Rachel. But it is Ross who ends up being the loser. 'N Sync star Lance Bass's space dreams are over for good - bosses at Russia's mission control have confirmed he won't be onboard when cosmonauts blast off in October. Madonna and her Maverick Films partner Guy Oseary are set to remake George Bernard Shaw classic Pygmalion and set it in South America. The couple's How To Be A Perfect Latino Popstar is a retelling of the story, which was also turned into the hit My Fair Lady musical. Maverick are on the hunt for a Latino unknown to play their lead.

Harrison Anniversary Marked with Album

The anniversary of the death of rocker George Harrison will coincide with the release of his unfinished album Brainwashed. The former Beatle's disc was his first studio project since the multi-platinum 1987 Cloud Nine. George lost his battle with cancer on November 29 2001 in Los Angeles. Brainwashed will include 11 tunes which George had been working on up until two months before his death. The singer's son Dhani and friend Jeff Lynne are currently putting the last touches towards the album, which is set to be released this November. Jeff enthuses, "George would come round to my house and he'd always have a new song with him. He would strum them on a guitar or ukulele. The songs just knocked me out. George constantly talked about how he wanted the album to sound and there was always spiritual energy that went into the lyrics as well as the music." An EMI spokesperson remarks, "George Harrison was an absolutely legendary artist and this is an extraordinary record and a testament to his genius. We are proud to offer this album to the world." Harrison dominated pop charts around the world last Christmas when his My Sweet Lord re-release became a huge hit.

Dawson's Creek star Joshua Jackson's plans to wed Rosario Dawson are looking far from rosy with the Men In Black II babe admitting she's thinking twice about commitment. Crichton Divorce

Top movie writer and ER creator Michael Crichton is heading for the divorce courts after failing to save his 13-year marriage. Crichton, the man behind the top rating American TV medical drama as well as the Jurassic Park films, and his wife Anne Marie Martin split last summer and now she has filed for divorce in a Los Angeles court, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple have a young daughter, Taylor Anne.

Stallone May Revive Rambo

Sylvester Stallone, who last appeared as Rambo in 1988, has told a news conference at the Deauville Film Festival in France that he may be bringing the character back to life in a new movie. "We're talking about doing another Rambo because I think it's time to combine action with politics," he said. Stallone has experienced a string of box-office flops in recent years, including Judge Dredd, which cost $90 million to make and earned just $35 million; Get Carter, which cost $40 million and earned $15 million; and Driven, which cost $72 million and earned $33 million.

Left Eye Lives On

(Katrillion) -- Fans of the late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes will have a chance to own her hard-to-get, final solo album.

The TLC member's second solo album, "Supernova," was released overseas in 2001. It was also made available on her official Website (eyenetics.com), but it was never sold in U.S. stores. That will soon change.

The album will be released in the U.S. in October by Tha Row records, which is headed by notorious rap mogul Suge Knight. A spokesperson for Knight confirmed the fall release.

Shortly before her sudden death earlier this year, Lopes was working on an album of new material for Tha Row under the name N.I.N.A. There have been no reports as to the fate of those tracks.

Lopes' voice will also show up on TLC's new album, due out in November.

Macaulay and Mandy Get 'Saved'

(Katrillion) -- Macaulay Culkin is making a comeback in Hollywood.

The former child star has signed on to star opposite the "Crush" queen herself, Mandy Moore.

Culkin and Moore are set to join the ensemble cast of the upcoming flick, "Saved." According to Variety, the dark comedy revolves around a pregnant teen who attends a Christian high school.

"Saved" also features a list of indie teen stars including Patrick Fugit ("Almost Famous"), Jena Malone ("The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys"), Heather Matarazzo ("Welcome to the Dollhouse") and Eva Amurri ("The Banger Sisters").

Production on "Saved" is slated to begin this month.

Kitten goes Atomic

Atomic Kitten star Jenny Frost will not be charged for her part in an alleged fracas at a party in Scotland, police have revealed.

Frost and Hazel Mall, a fashion photographer, were both questioned after the launch last Wednesday of a new Harvey Nichols department store in Edinburgh.

No details shave been released about the incident, but police have confirmed that neither Frost, 24, or Mall, 27, are under any further investigation.

A police spokeswoman explained: "The charges relating to the incident were dropped and police no longer involved in the matter".

The 700 guests at the party, who reportedly downed 700 bottles of champagne, 500 bottles of wine and 10 crates of vodka, included Ewan McGregor, Robert Carlyle, Goldie and Kylie Minogue's ex James Gooding.

Eminem Tour Bus Catches Fire

PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Friction from a flat tire caused a bus with the Eminem-headlined Anger Management Tour to catch fire on a highway Sunday, fire officials said.

Pittsfield Township Fire Sgt. John Maguire said the bus was fully engulfed in flames by the time his department got to the scene on Interstate 94 in Washtenaw County at about 1:30 p.m.

Maguire said the bus driver, who was not injured, was alone on the bus when the fire started. The bus - apparently reserved for Eminem's managers - was on its way to meet the tour at a scheduled performance, he said.

The Anger Management Tour wrapped up Sunday night at the Palace in Auburn Hills.

Three fire departments worked to extinguish the blaze and crews remained on the scene for about three hours, the Pittsfield Township Department of Public Safety said in a statement. Hazmat crews were required to clean up about 150 gallons of diesel fuel that leaked from the bus's tank.

Madonna And Guy Argue Over Swept Away Idea

Superstar Madonna and movie-maker Guy Ritchie are arguing over who had the idea for their recent movie remake of Swept Away.

The "Material Girl" was directed by husband in the re-working of a 1974 Italian movie, which is set to be released in America later this year.

During a joint interview with journalist Alan Riding for The New York Times, both stars claimed responsibility for the idea.

Guy says, "Initially it was mine," to which Madonna snapped "You liar."

After Guy barked back "It was mine," Madonna told Riding, "It wasn't his. That's a total lie."

The Snatch helmer went on to tell his wife "Darling, not so. You brought the film. I watched the film with you and then I said, 'Someone should remake that film.'"

Pop superstar Cher has had her Malibu, California, home blessed by Tibetan Buddhist monks, and to keep spiritual energy levels high she and her family drank the crushed remains of the religious men's dead mentors. Madonna has described how she was reduced to a quivering wreck while being directed by her husband Guy Ritchie - especially when it came to shooting graphic love scenes. "We were terrified," she says in an interview with the New York Times. "We saved the physical stuff to the very end of the shooting - and I think everyone expected, like, bombs to go off. Eminem Explains Name of New Film

New movie star Eminem has revealed the inspiration for the name of his debut film 8 Mile - it's named after the infamous Eight Mile Road which divides blacks and whites living in Detroit. The film is loosely autobiographical and is the story of a struggling white rapper named Jimmy Smith Junior growing up around the Eight Mile Road, as Eminem did. He explains, "8 Mile is like the color line for Detroit. On one side it's (mostly black) Detroit - the other side it's (mostly white) Warren. I grew up on the Detroit side but everywhere I lived was on those borderlines."

Holmes Lubricates Downey Jr.

Dawson's Creek beauty Katie Holmes has just tackled her most challenging role yet - playing nurse to Robert Downey Jr. The 23-year-old squeaky clean beauty co-stars alongside the troubled star in an upcoming adaptation of Dennis Potter's The Singing Detective. According to reports, the "I Need A Girl" rapper had spent the morning with friends on the beach but had lost his chauffeur.

Having unsuccessfully tried to hail a taxi, the millionaire star had to accept a lift from benevolent Fiat Punto driver Monica Flitner. But it seems Combs was less then pleased to ride to lunch in such an unglamorous set of wheels, he barely said a word to his unlikely savior.

Flitner says, "His friends were much more grateful I'd stopped for them. When we got to the restaurant I could see that Puffy was really embarrassed to be getting out of my hire car.

Tupac killer to be named

The Los Angeles Times claims that it will reveal the identity of the killer of rap star Tupac Shakur in this Saturday's newspaper (September 7).

Timed to coincide with the eve of the sixth anniversary of Shakur's death, news writer Chuck Phillips says of the investigative report: "We're going to name the killer and there's a definite East Coast connection."

Phillips has been investigating the case for the past year, interviewing police officers and gang members with insights into the circumstances of the murder.

Tupac Shakur died on September 13 1996, when he was shot from a passing car as he drove from the Mike Tyson-Bruce Seldon championship fight with Death Row Records boss Marion 'Suge' Knight.

The story will run on the front page of the newspaper on Saturday.

Eve, Alicia and Iglesias performed a string of hits to pump up the thousands of fans who gathered for the free concert, but it was rockers Bon Jovi who stole the show. The New Jersey rockers took to the stage as the late evening sun beamed on the Times Square stage, with frontman Jon Bon Jovi screaming, "Welcome to New York, the capital of the world," while guitarist Richie Sambora draped an American flag over himself.

Performing on a stage designed to look like a massive football, the group played classics “Living On A Prayer”, “Bad Medicine” and “You Give Love A Bad Name” and new single “Everyday”, among other hits.

In a touching moment, the frontman urged fans to raise their hands and had a special message for the world. He said, "These are the helping hands of brothers and sisters and friends, the policemen and the firemen, the newspaper salesmen and the people who work in restaurants. "We can't let that feeling go away. We wanna let the world know that New York is gonna be just fine but we thank them for their thoughts and for their prayers. "This is a resilient city, this is New York."

Actress Elizabeth Hurley's London office has been burgled - just days after claiming that the city needs more police on the beat. The 37-year-old actress was mugged by a girl gang eight years ago and had just appealed for extra uniform patrols when she discovered there had been a break-in at her offices. Burglars struck at the Chelsea premises of her screen production company Simian Films, co-owned by her former boyfriend Hugh Grant. Bad-boy rapper Eminem was clueless as to how famous he really was - until fans started stalking him.

The hip-hop star bought a house in the middle-class suburb of Sterling Heights, Detroit across the street from a trailer park.

Soon enough fans stalked his family and even swam in his pool - leaving the star paranoid.

He says, "F***, I had no idea I was that famous and bought it thinking it was going to be the first and last house I'm ever going to buy."

Destiny's Child star Beyonce Knowles turned her 21st birthday party into an Austin Powers-themed rollerskate party in Atlanta, Georgia this weekend (31 AUG 02).

The singer and budding actress, who plays Foxxy Cleopatra in new Powers comedy Goldmember, was so taken by the skating scenes in the movie she decided to scrap her plans for a conventional party and head for the roller disco on Saturday (31 AUG 02).

She says, "I knew I didn't want to anything traditional and I was a little jealous when they got to do the skating thing in the film because I wasn't part of it."I'm not a great skater but I love it. It was a great party. I just went round and round all night." (WENN)

Beckham To Get New Tattoo To Celebrate Son

Soccer star David Beckham is poised to have Romeo tattooed across his body - to celebrate the birth of his second child with Posh Spice Victoria.

The happy couple gave their son, born on Sunday morning, 1 September 2002, have caused much interest with the classical name - and now David is set to add the baby's moniker to the one of Brooklyn, his first born, tattooed across his lower back.

Louis Molloy, the Manchester United star's favourite tattooist, says, "He told me if he had any more children he would get one done for them."

However, Beckham's father Ted has been unable to shed any light on the reasoning behind the celebrity couple's choice of name.

He says, "I haven't a clue why they chose Romeo. My middle name is David so I thought they might have even picked David - and there are certainly enough Teds around. Romeo is a bit of a different name, but there again David is a different person." (WENN)

Superstar Madonna's young children have been photographed in a park in Beverly Hills - wearing make-up.

Five-year-old Lourdes - nicknamed Lola by the pop diva stepped out wearing lipstick and even gave little Rocco a mini-makeover.

The two-year-old toddler was wearing a hint of nail varnish and his big sister was spotted gently brushing his hair and picking up his toys after he threw them on the path.

Lance Bass Mission Grounded

'N Sync star Lance Bass is devastated after the Russian Space Agency asked him to leave the Cosmonaut training programme, citing "crude violations" of his contract.

The Agency's spokesman Sergei Gorbunov made an official statement today declaring Bass would not be on board a mission to the International Space Station next month, only days after the popstar "confirmed" he would be flying with the Russians at a press conference from Houston, Texas on Friday.

Gorbunov explains, "After failing to fulfill the conditions of his contract, Lance Bass has been told that his training at the Cosmonaut Training Centre has ended and that his flight to the ISS is impossible. "It's over."

Lance, 23, began training in July at Russia's Star City after undergoing an operation to correct an irregular heartbeat and spent a week at NASA's Johnson Space Centre in Houston last week before returning to Star City earlier this week.

The Agency said Bass and his sponsors had been given several deadlines to come up with the U.S $20 million required to secure a seat on the mission, but had failed to hand over any cash at all. However Mir-Corp president Jeff Manbar, who was working with Bass, claimed the singer's space dreams could still be realised. Manbar says, "It is a little dramatic to say he was kicked out. He was training at Star City yesterday. He is not training today, but he will be back there probably tomorrow or the day after." (wenn)

Kelly Osbourne's Grief Over Mums Cancer

Upcoming popstar and reality TV star Kelly Osbourne has spoken out about how she discovered her mother Sharon was suffering from cancer of the colon.

Kelly says, "I found out in a really awful way. I was out to dinner with friends and I got this phone call saying, 'Mum's got cancer, come home' and I was like, 'What?' "I was hysterical in the middle of the f**king restaurant in New York and I went home and couldn't stop crying, it was f**king awful."

She continues, "The way it was said made it seem like, 'Your mum's got terminal cancer' but if you could have any type of cancer from one to ten, this is like 0.5. You just have to have the chemo to make sure." (wenn)

Geri Runs Into Iron Curtain

A policeman oblivious to her fame turned former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell away from her own concert in Russia's Red Square. The disgruntled star was hoping to show her boyfriend Demian Warner the Square before her gig on Sunday night, to celebrate Moscow's 855th anniversary. But the stern Muscovite officer barred Geri, informing her that the famous square was closed to tourists when she tried to enter the venue last Sunday. The pair then descended into a shouting match - even though neither of them understood each other's language.

An onlooker reports, "She quite rightly became angry and upset when she was stopped from walking onto the square. The policeman didn't realise who she was, and said that Red Square was closed. He obviously wasn't well briefed on the concert later that night, which was the very reason the Square was closed to ordinary tourists." (wenn)

Madonna is reported to have gone into the studio to record the follow-up to 'Music', with Mirwais.

The Queen of Pop is believed to be working with the French uber-producer again, after the success of 2000's collaboration.

Work is rumoured to have begun on the record in London, with tentative initial suggestions claiming the album is set for a release sometime next year.

Music website worldpop also report that Madonna's first new material since 'Music' - the theme tune for the new James Bond movie 'Die Another Day' - will be released on November 12.

Jennifer Lopez To Play English Rose?

Not content with dating Gwyneth Paltrow's ex-boyfriend Ben Affleck, Latina babe Jennifer Lopez now hopes to nick a few film parts from the blonde Oscar-winner.

The singer/actress is apparently keen to play the sort of English lady that Shakespeare In Lov star Gwyneth is famous for.

The Latina star has had a meeting with bosses at Merchant Ivory, famous for their period dramas.

J.Lo's long rivalry with Gwyneth began when Jennifer said in 1998, "'I don't remember anything she was in. Some people get hot by association. I heard more about her and Brad Pitt than I ever heard about her work." (WENN)

Kylie And Dannii Going Head To Head

Pop pixie Kylie Minogue is to go head-to-head with her little sister Dannii when both their singles are released on the same day in Britain. Minogue Jnr will release her comeback single Put The Needle On It on 28 October, with superstar Kylie releasing Come Into My World, the fourth track from her multi-million selling album Fever. Dannii's single was meant to be released on 14 October but problems making the video resulted in a delay.

An insider at Warner Records says, "It was never our intention to go head to head with Kylie, it simply worked out that way. The video was delayed and we only finished it on Friday. October 28 then emerged as the best release date and it was then we realised that Kylie's single was out on the same day. Dannii loves Kylie and vice versa so I'm sure if there's any rivalry it will be friendly. It will be very interesting to see how things work out. We believe Dannii will have a massive hit. Outspoken Canadian singer Avril Lavigne is not to be messed with - because she promises she'll give as good as she gets.

Eminem 'Scared To Death' Of Watching His New Movie

Hip-hop star Eminem has a slight problem with the upcoming release of his new movie 8 Mile - he's terrified to watch it.

The outspoken rapper, who stars in the semi-biographical flick alongside Kim Basinger and Brittany Murphy, admits he's petrified of how his first major film role will be received.

And he believes he's got one critic who will definitely prove hard to please - himself.

He says, "Acting is a very scary thing. People in the industry have told me, 'It's great man, I think it's going to be a big movie.'"

Atomic Kitten Get Creative

Pop trio Atomic Kitten have broken the manufactured band stereotype - by writing their own songs.

The stars, who were put together by the auditioning process, are getting their creative juices flowing for their forthcoming second album Feels So Good.

Singer Jenny Frost enthuses, "Tash (Natasha Hamilton) and I have done some writing on this album. One of my songs has a real 80s feel and another's got a great uptempo, disco vibe."

Bandmate Liz McClarnon adds, "One night when I worked till 6am. I wanted to make sure a song I'd written was spot-on."

Jenny adds the girls steered away from noisy tracks, as Natasha was pregnant with son Josh at the time of recording.

Led Zep To Reunite At Last?

Rock legends Led Zeppelin are closer than ever to staging a comeback world tour with all three original members and John Bonham's son Jason on drums.

A reunion between Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones has been hinted at many times but band in-fighting has always wrecked any chance of a concert. But now the trio is making peace and insiders insist they're planning a full reunion for 2003.

The band hasn't toured together since drummer Bonham's death in 1980, but the trio did reunite for strained one-off performances in 1985's Live Aid concert,1988's Atlantic Records 40th Anniversary show and at the band's 1995 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Jones was left out of the Plant & Page projects from 1994 to 1998.

Guitarist Page is currently working on a DVD set of previously unreleased live performances and other rare video material. The DVD is due to hit stores early next year (03), which would be the time for the reunion tour to take place. (WENN)

Nicole Kidman recently got her own back on Penelope Cruz. The Spanish beauty had set up a meeting with Kidman at her Colorado holiday home to enable the pair to dispel any animosity - but the Australian actress was a no-show, choosing to jet off to Romania to join cast mates on her new movie Cold Mountain instead. Bjork burgled

Bjork was burgled at the weekend while she slept alongside her boyfriend in West London, it has emerged.

The Icelandic pop superstar, who is seven months pregnant, is reported to have lost some electronic recording equipment in the raid, which happened on Friday evening.

Bjork and partner Matthew Barney were interviewed by police on Sunday afternoon following the break-in at their Maida Vale basement flat.

She told reporters at the scene: I don't want to make any comment about the burglary. It's a private matter.

It has not been revealed whether either Bjork or her boyfriend confronted the burglars or if any unreleased recordings were taken in the burglary.

Mya's Controversial New Lyrics

R&B star Mya is to drop her squeaky-clean image with controversial songs for her new album.

The singer, who is soon to be seen in the movie Chicago, has written tracks titled "Unless My Period's Late" and "Whatever B****".

Britney Makes Fool of Jacko

Britney Spears caused huge embarrassment for Michael Jackson, after her praise of the star led to him believing he'd received an award at Friday night's MTV Video Music Awards. Thriller star Jackson was brought onto the stage by the 20-year-old singer at the start of the ceremony, which took place at New York's Radio City Music Hall.

Jackson arrived on stage to a standing ovation from the star studded crowd, who were helping him celebrate his 44th birthday, which fell on the same day. But when Britney told the red-clad icon that she thought he was the "artist of the millennium" and handed him a personal birthday gift, Jackson misunderstood her comments and thought that he was actually receiving an Artist of the Millennium Award from her, even though there was no such category. A proud Jackson took to the stand to announce, "When I was a little boy in Indiana, if someone had told me that one day I'd be getting the Artist of the Millennium award, I wouldn't have believed it. I can't believe it."

No mention has been made of the embarrassing faux pas and some American publications even printed pictures of star today, with captions stating that he was receiving the "award". MTV, who admit there was no such honour waiting in the wings for Jackson, describe the award as "unprecedented". (wenn)

J Lo And Affleck To Marry On Valentines Day

Jennifer Lopez is set to wed her new beau Ben Affleck in a lavish U.S $1.5 million Valentine's Day Puerto Rican extravaganza. Just a month after the My Love Don't Cost A Thing singer filed for divorce from dancer Cris Judd, J.Lo plans to return to her roots for the lavish nuptials, taking over San Juan's luxurious Ritz Carlton resort on the island of her parents' birth.

A source says of the upcoming star-studded ceremony, "This will be one of the most glorious weddings in Hollywood history. Jennifer is telling friends that she wants to go all out for this wedding ... and money is no object. J Lo plans to fly in her family from New York, while Affleck will transport his from Boston by private jet for the ceremony. The Los Angeles celebrities will arrive in another private jet, while remaining guests will be flown in first class, setting the couple back by tens of thousands of dollars. There will be at least a half-dozen designers and decorators who will transform the hotel ballroom into a white fantasy land with silks and chiffons."

There will also be top-notch security costing U.S $100,000 at the bash and Lopez and Affleck are set to arrive at their reception in a horse-drawn carriage. The couple has yet to decide on where they will honeymoon, although pals tell American tabloid the Star that they're currently leaning towards the idea of a Caribbean cruise.

Hunter has been spending increasing amount of time at Robbie's current pad which he rents from actor Dan Aykroyd.

A source says, "They're so happy together that buying a place was a natural step. The place has three bedrooms and they're making it into five. And he's getting a recording studio built there too."

A source says, "She hit the roof when they swapped numbers. She threw the mother of all hissy fits and totally wiped the floor with Enrique. Kylie is stunning but he looked to be blown away by her and even before they locked themselves away he kept glancing over at her. Anna's attractive but she gets pretty jealous."

Eve and Gwen's collaboration for "Let Me Blow Your Mind" was one of the brightest ideas to come out of pop music in the past few years: the music industry's most stylish rapper meets its most stylish rocker.

Will these two hot tamales give us another fresh track in the future?

Dushku Ponders Return to Sunnydale

(Katrillion) -- She's proven she can kick butt on the small screen, but can "Buffy" alum Eliza Dushku hold her own alongside major Hollywood heavyweights like Robert De Niro, Frances McDormand, and "Spider-man" star James Franco?

The 21-year-old actress is about to find out when her new movie, "City by the Sea," a gritty true-life drama, hits theaters next week.

"It was a little intimidating," Dushku confessed to Katrillion. "I had worked with Bob (De Niro) before, but that was 11 years ago, so I remembered him, but I don't know if he remembered me," she joked.

While her film career may be taking off, Dushku is well aware of the fact that "Buffy" fans are pining to see her back at Sunnydale this year. "Buffy" creator Joss Whedon also wants her back; he recently told Katrillion he was hoping against hope that she might return to the show.

But is Dushku ready to confirm she'll be joining the rest of the Big Bads scheduled to make an appearance this season?

"I don't really know," Dushku admitted. "I might go back and do 'Buffy' again this year -- I'm trying set aside time in my schedule for that. But I'm totally open to going back and forth between movies and television right now."

'Delighted' Beckhams Have New Son

By Stephen Hird LONDON (Reuters) - Victoria Beckham, aka "Posh Spice," gave birth to a second son on Sunday and her superstar soccer player husband said they have named the boy Romeo.

"It's a boy...Romeo," a beaming David Beckham told reporters outside the exclusive Portland Hospital in central London where Victoria gave birth to the celebrity couple's first child, Brooklyn, three years ago.

"It's just a name we love," the Manchester United star and England captain said when asked why they chose the name of one of William Shakespeare's best-known lovers.

Beckham, looking relaxed in white shirt and matching cap, said his new son weighed in at seven pounds and four ounces (3.36 kg) and mother and baby were doing well. "We're both delighted...(Victoria's) great. She's sitting up in bed."

The soccer star said Brooklyn had been allowed into the operating theater just after the birth, believed to be a second Cesarean section.

"Brooklyn came in when Romeo came out...he absolutely adores him," Beckham said. "(Romeo) look's like Brooklyn. He's gorgeous. He's got Brooklyn's nose and Victoria's chin."

The fact the baby was a "Romeo" and not a "Juliet" confounded Britain's tabloids, which had confidently predicted the baby would be a girl called Paris, after the French capital where "Posh" is believed to love shopping.

Brooklyn was famously named after the area of New York where he was conceived.

Victoria shot to superstardom in the 1990s as part of the "Spice Girls" band which has sold about 40 million albums and 25 million singles worldwide and has had nine number one singles in Britain alone.

This year, she has been seeking to salvage her flagging solo career with a new single, "A Mind of its Own."

Meanwhile David, famed for his footballing skills at top English club Manchester United and as England captain, has said he is in talks with British high-street retailer Marks and Spencer to help design a range of boys' clothing.

Both are seen as doting parents. David has a large guardian angel tattooed on his back over Brooklyn's name.

The new arrival can expect plenty of treats from the mega-earning couple. They spent a reported 50,000 pounds ($77,710) on a child-size Ferrari for Brooklyn for his first Christmas. ($1-.6434 Pound)

The video for the song, Can You See My Mind, was shot in LA last week and according to a source 'is definitely designed to shock.' Said source adds, 'With blood on her face and a tattoo on her arm she is interrogated by two Chinese prison offers. Then she is dragged to a room where the guards repeatedly dunk her head in and out of the water.' But, being Madonna, she escapes. 'Then she has to fight an evil Madonna in a mega fencing battle.' Just when you think the video cannot get any more action-packed Madge will be strapped into an electric chair, chanting a Kabbalah prayer (an ancient form of Judaism that Madonna practices), to be executed.
